A letter from Peggy

Hi there,

When I looked back at every big moment in my life, I realized what made them matter was the people I shared them with. So I refuse to accept that in our 30s and 40s, friendships have to dip.

Boatie comes out of years of studying how people connect, coaching others, and my own search for belonging.

You have my word on two things.

  • AI where it helps, people where it matters. Empathy, nuance and blind spots need a person, even when that means we cannot scale.
  • I am not in this for a quick win. My dream is to keep working on this mission. If making money ever means making Boatie worse for you, I will make less money. And I will never sell your data.

How it works

A weekly ritual with the people you choose.

Up to ten: the close ones, the ones you miss or the new ones. Here is one week for Maggie.

Every Sunday

Boatie helps you check in with yourself.

A question your people would actually want the answer to, written with coaches, and Boatie follows up when needed.

Why this way

Better connection with others starts with knowing where you actually are.

Boatie
Hey Maggie. What has been weighing on you lately?
0:47
I heard some uncertainty in there. Is it the work itself, or where it is taking you?
1:12
I would send this to Linda, if you are okay with it:
Maggie has been quietly questioning whether her career still fits her. She has not said it to many people. A good week to ask her about it.
Good to go?
yes
Later

Someone gets your “wave”. And you get one too.

Boatie sends a short note. Not the details, but an honest reflection, so reaching out means more.

Why this way

Social media lets you broadcast. Boatie makes sharing intentional, one person at a time, and it does not have to be mutual.

Girl, what's this about questioning your career?! Tell me everything 👀
Anytime

Talk to your people, just 8 minutes.

The check-ins help with the knowing, and we want you to actually talk. Boatie finds a moment when you are both free. It ends at eight minutes: short enough to find time for, long enough to make your day better.

Why this way

Hearing a voice does more for your wellbeing than reading words, according to the New York Times.

A year of this means small moments of a full 💙 every week, relationships that actually got deeper, and feeling less alone.

We are each our own island.

We all carry a whole inner world in here.
Weather nobody can see from the shore.
Most of it we would say out loud, if someone asked at the right moment.

A map of the sea. You sit alone on your own island. James, Linda and Joey are on islands of their own, and a small sailboat travels the dotted routes running between them.

Boatie is the boat.

It goes back and forth between us and fills the gap in nurturing connection: the initiating, the real stuff, and the consistency.

Questions

You may be wondering

How do I invite my people to Boatie?
We do it together. Boatie drafts the message in your words, with your reason for asking, and you send it to the people you pick. Right now the cap is ten people.
How often will Boatie text me?
A few times a week, and we promise not to be annoying. Boatie stops when it should. Check-in on Sunday, wave on Wednesday, and on Friday we help an 8 minute call happen.
How does a “wave” actually work?
Boatie takes your check-in and sends a short version to ONE person, with your yes on who. Never your exact words, so nothing is spoiled, but enough to make them curious. Your wave goes to one person and someone else's wave comes to you, so most weeks you get two chances at connection. When two check-ins line up, Boatie may wave you at each other.
What if the people who get my waves never reach out to me?
Fair question, and it happens. We would rather you ask them than guess. Sometimes people are holding more than we can see. And sometimes the energy for a relationship is not there anymore, which is okay too.
Do I need to download an app?
Not for now. Boatie comes to you by text and you answer right there. Later there will be a place to find all your answers, your friends' waves, and other good stuff for connecting better.
Is Boatie free?
Part of Boatie will always be free, because quality connection should be for everyone.

Come aboard.

We are still early, so you can help make Boatie work for you.
